My name is Eric Roberts. I am the Assistant Director at Mission of Hope Ministries and I want to share with you how good our God is! I have been saved, clean and sober for 10 years, Praise God!
For most of my younger life, I can remember being in church any time the doors were open. At 16, I started dabbling with alcohol and by the time I hit 18 I went into full blown rebellion. I left church and refused to go back. I began partying, going to bars and clubs, having what I thought was fun. Sin only seems pleasurable for a season (Heb. 11:25). John 10:10 says that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy and for the next 10 years, methamphetamine did just that! I relate to the prodigal son story (Luke 15) because I can remember the night that I came to myself, staring at myself in the mirror, physically and mentally broken, saying out loud “God, something has to change”. I left that night, ended up in a high speed chase with a state trooper and woke up in a hospital. I knew the only way I was alive was by the grace of God. I knew in my heart that God was giving me an opportunity to change.
I thank God he didn’t see me as I was at that moment in time. He saw what he wanted and meant for me to be. God made a way for me to check into the Mission of Hope on December 2, 2009. I came here broken and ready for change. I told the staff at the time I would do anything I needed to. A few weeks after being here, I gave my life to God and things have never been the same. Do I mean that everything is perfect? No. I go through highs and lows like everyone else but now I have Jesus with me, carrying me. Today I am married to a wonderful woman who is also a graduate of our Haven of Hope Women’s program. We have 2 beautiful children and God lets me be a part of the same ministry that he used to save my life. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthian 5:17.
