Krista’s Story

I was lost. I was rarely exposed to Christianity in a way that affected my life choices. I began a life of addiction at a young age, constantly searching for something or someone to fill the emptiness inside.

These worldly things seemed to stifle the need, but the counterfeit pleasure always ended leaving more darkness. Years of drug and alcohol abuse and the consequent lifestyle led to the loss of relationships, jobs, my two children, my health, and eventually all of my hope. Even after my children were removed from my care, after being arrested and spending time in jail, after suffering life threatening medical issues resulting in several hospitalizations, I turned back to the drugs that had poisoned every facet of my life. I was hopeless and alone.

On March 11th 2020, I woke up in a hospital bed, with a tube in my throat, knowing only pain. I had just had my c3 and c4 fused together due to infections in my spine caused by years of intravenous drug use. How was I still alive? Why? I had given up. After a swift and sober recovery, I found my way to the Mission of Hope Ministries. It was the first rehabilitation facility that was free of charge and still accepting intakes after a brief quarantine period due to the pandemic. It took two weeks for the scales to fall from my eyes and for me to open the door and ask Jesus into my heart. God was what was missing in my life. Jesus Christ died for me. I am alive because of who He is.

I graduated my 90 day program on Aug 19, 2020, and chose to stay in Step Up program. By the grace of God, I have purpose. This mission is why I am here. He turned the mess I had made of my life into a message. Jesus pulled me out of the darkness and now I am a vessel of light for others who don’t know there is a better way. God is restoring the relationships with my family and children. I am saved and set free, and now have hope for the future God has planned for my life.

‘But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. ‘ Genesis 50:20
